Growing up in a house with just girls, I knew that raising boys would just be, well different. Lo and behold, it has been. One of the things that we are involved in because of our sons is Scouting.
Scouting for us has been about learning skills that he'd probally never learn in any other youth group. Sure you learn how to tie knots but you also learn First Aid, Outdoor Skills and Navigational Skills. It's all about learning how to survive, not just in the woods, but in the real world as well! Through the weekly activities and special projects, we have seen self-confidence develop, leadership emerge and moral character form. More and more men, trained as Scouts, are taking their places in today's world as responsible adult leaders. Men, who earned badges as Scouts, sit on the Supreme Court and in the chambers of Congress. Others hold important offices in our government, business and industry. Most of the members of Congress were Scouts, as well as most of the astronauts who have walked on the moon.
