This year there are two new badges the Girl Scout Juniors can earn, the Archery and Horseback Riding. I started during the summer making plans for the Juniors in my troop to be among the first to earn these. The first place I started is with people and places that I knew; I called the TTU Equestrian Center only to find out about their Time to Ride Events in May through September. I had no idea there was such thing. Events like Time to Ride teach and encourage the love of riding and horsemanship. The center could win $10,000 if they are the center with the most participants in their Time to Ride events. It was a terrific partnership. We wanted to learn and ride and they wanted riders! When I told them I had about 10 girls in my troop, they asked if I could find more girls... of course I can! I posted on the Lubbock Area facebook group and asked if any other troops might be interested. There ere over 100 girls who attended our Time to Ride event! I sent the director of the center the badge requirements and they did the rest, setting up stations, gathering volunteers, teaching the ladies about the horses and what it takes to care for them, and even a tour of the facility! | |

AuthorReally, I never thought that I'd say, "... table for 6, please." going to dinner with my family. I had plans to be a professor and travel the world. I moved from Missouri to West Texas for graduate school and was just passing through, when I met a man that captivated my heart and held my hand. Archives
