Flying High with Cub Scouts

Going to the airport was so cool becuase we got to see so much that most people never get to see, like the basement part where the workers go, the belt that the bags ride to the plane on, and even the inside of an airplane.

Lubbock Aero
The field trip was planned by our
cub scout pack as part of our summer fun - and boy it was fun! We went to
Lubbock Aero where people that own planes get to park their planes. They have
three buildings that they call hangers where airplanes can park. We got to sit
in one of the tiny planes over there too. They have a gas station there with
special gas for the airplanes. They even have classes there when they teach
people that want to learn to fly.

Lubbock International Airport
I've flown on a plane before to my aunts house, but I didn't know that it took all of those people. First, we ate a sack lunch in a cool room upstairs where you could see all of the planes and the travelers. We got our own badges, coloring books and even some wings to pin on before we went on a tour of the whole place. That's where we really started to see all of the people that it takes to make the planes fly - it takes more than just the pilot. There are the folks that check the bags, and then those that check the people. Those that help the people get to the plane and thosethat help everyone once they get on the plane -and even more people that help the planes, to keep them clean inside and out, to keep them gassed up and to keep them flying on time.

We we walked out on to the road under the main airport, we saw a plane land, taxi up, and unload the passangers. One of the crew got out nad told us the pilot said that it would be ok if we got on and took a look around - that was just so cool. Some of our scout friends had never been on an airplane.

Airport Control Tower
After the airport tour, we went over to the tower to see what all goes on over there. The people that work in the control tower help the planes get to where they are going. They have computers that scan the sky to show where everyone is flying. Upstairs you could actually see the airplanes flying near the airport. The guys that work up there help the planes land and take off. We got to use binoculars to watch the airplanes come in and go out.

The whole day was just so fun. It made me want to be a pilot, but my sister still wants to work in the doughnut store. That's ok. I like doughnuts alot.

Puppy Dog Wins the "Where to Eat" Vote

7/6/2011

It was time to eat, we needed to choose a place and with several options on the floor. The lunch location was put to a vote. We had two votes for chicken and french fries and one vote for the puppy dog. The 2 year old who is fascinated and terrified of dogs really wanted to go to the puppy dog place... so with the cout standing at 3 to 1 - Raising Canes it was.
Picture

The only location so far is across from campus and that means it's crazy at lunchtime. The parking lot, which is large considering where it is, was packed. Inside it was packed too, but the Canes folks kept it moving - taking orders quickly, getting the tables bussed and the food to the tables fast really made all the difference.

With the choices being chicken or chicken, it made the deciding pretty easy for the kids. But when the food came - no sacks and no toys today. Usually they get stickers at Canes. But the chicken and "the weird sauce" made up for the lack of toys, I think.

The kids ate everything. I had to ask them to remember they also got chicken in their meals when they started on the second round of ketchup in the tiny paper cups. I think that they were excited about the lack of "colors on their plate," meaning no "extra" vegetables besides the fries. Refills on their drinks were easy for them to get. They could reach the fountain and that was impressive to me and to them - even the ones that had to go to the counter for lemonaide refills were able to get the attention of the staff and return to the table successful.

I think that they enjoyed being in the campus "hot spot" with all the cool college kids. It made them feel so big and the fact that they were able to be self sufficient made it even better. Next time the dog wins the "Where to Eat" vote, it will be a-ok with me.

Bahama Bucks Rocks

7/6/2011

For a cool treat on a really hot day, our mom took us to Bahama Bucks. My sister said that she had a coupon, but it expired like a year ago... the things that girl keeps in her purse! But we got a punch card and filled it almost half way up with just one visit!
Picture

MENU
They have snow cones, ice cream, smoothies, and even "sno balls." The flavors come in all sorts of types - including sugar free. My mom even got a cup of fruit!

TURNING TOUNGES
The flavors were all so good; we shared bites with each other. After a little while our tounges turned colors so we stuck them out but our omo wouldn't take a picture.

BRAIN FREEZZE
One thing you have to be careful about at Bahama Bucks is eating it too fast that you get a brain freeze. But if you do get a brain freeze, just stick your tounge on the roof of your mouth to warm it all up again.

OVERALL
You can't beat a great snow cone on a hot day and with all of the flavor choices, Bahama Bucks is great.

You can even get a party pack and take snow cones for your whole group... hint, hint - mom

4th on Broadway from the Street

Becase I'm a Cub Scout we were invited to be in the parade. I've never been in a parade before and this one was fun. We wore out scout uniforms, decorated our bikes and got to the civic center at like 7 a.m. to be ready for the parade.

The parade was really long and we had to keep stopping, but everyone along the way was waving and clapping. It was sort of funny to only see the people watching and miss every thing that I susally see when I get to watch the parade. Being in the parade was cool, if I have the chance I think that I'll do it again too!
Here are a few of the things that I got to see pictures of after the parade was over, thanks to my mom...

Galveston: Casey's is Cool

When we checked in at the hotel we asked about a great place for seafood and, "Gaido's  - the Casey side - look for the giant crab," is what we were told. So we did and when we arrived we were greeted and seated right away - which surprised us considering we were visiting on a Friday of a holiday weekend.
Picture
We knew it was going to be an awesome place even before we walked in with their huge shrimp and crab on the roof - what a fun place!
Our waitress was so nice and brought us all kinds of things - even told us about her favorites and what other people liked the best too. She was really nice and brought us all kinds of things to try.

If you like seafood, you should really go there.

Galveston: the Beach

7/1/2011

Extending our familiy vacation so that we could go to the beach was well worth all the extra time in the car. When we drove down to Seawall Street and all we could see was water, we all got so excited. All of us kids started cheering. Our baby brother had never seen the ocean and when our sister was at the ocean she was so little she doesn't even remember it. We could hardly wait to  get in the water.

Once we finally got everything together to go to the beach, we just had to walk across the street from our hotel and down some big steps on to the sand. The beach was clean and the sand was warm. There were some older boys who had thin boards that they were tossing into the shallow water, jumping on, and then riding as they slid across the water. Another man was fishing far out in the waves and not too long after we build our first sand castle of the day a whole group of college kids came with their music machine on wheels. They were a party looking for a place to land. It was kind of fun watching them dance and be silly.

There was so much to do playing in the water... a little airplane even flew by with an ad for everyone to read. Now that's not something we see everyday.

After watching the first episode of Nickelodean iCarly, where the main character decides to do a web show, my kids decided that they would like to do a "show". Choosing to share our experiences with others, sounded like a really fun idea.
