First Friday Art Trail

9/1/2016

One of the gems of Lubbock is our First Friday Art Trail, a free, public art event centered around the Lubbock Cultural District, It was a great evening of art, music and fun. We popped from one center to a gallery, and into businesses for a wide variety of art.  The variety of beautiful things was overwhelming - painting, welding, photography, music of all kinds.

The kids really enjoyed themselves. Riding the trolley was a highlight and the little one was impressed with the art prices!

Held from 6-9pm, rain or shine, on the first Friday of every month, this progressive art event is sure to delight visitors with a plethora of art experiences. Trail goers can grab a map and explore the trail on their own, or jump aboard one of five free First Friday Trolleys and ride to the galleries along the downtown route.

Tonight at Girl Scouts, we made posters about why we love the town where we live. The posters are going to be part of our decoration for our float at the annual Lions Club Harvest Festival this month. We all talked about the same things  on our posters - the fun we have at our different activities and the friends that we have here. It's a pretty great place to live!

St. Louis is a great city with lots to do. It was an enjoyable day. A few of the things that are fun to do might include going to the ball park, walking around downtown (make sure to check out the splash pad), and of course seeing the arch is a must.

A Trip to the Dairy

The trip to the dairy was an outing with the Girls Scouts, but it was an incredible trip. The dairyman was wonderful to visit with us and answer every question. He introduced to girls to every cow, by name. We had a terrific evening at the dairy.

It was about a 30 minute drive from Lubbock - and well worth it.

We stocked up on raw milk, cheese, sour cream and even some soaps and lotions too!

Guadalupe Mountains National Park
We were really just looking for a bathroom stop, but our scouts decided to become Junior Rangers at Guadalupe Mountains National Park! All we needed to do was pick up a workbook at the Headquarters Visitor Center, then choose from a variety of fun and educational activities. We learned about the park's history, fossils, native plants and  animal inhabitants. There just happened to be a Ranger Program going on too! They got to learn about native animals like the rattlesnake. By participating in activities they can even earn a certificate a badge, and a patch!

How to Tie Your Shoes

Preston learn how to tie his shoes and wanted to share what he learned with
  you.

1. First you make and X with your laces. Put the X right in the middle.
2. Make a small tree  by looping the shoe lace right on top of the X.
3. The other lace, also known as the bunny, make it run around the tree.
4. The bunny runs so fast that he slips between the thumb and under his original
  path.
5. Grab the tree and the loop that's coming through on top  of your thumb to make two bunny ears.
6. Pull the ears tight.

After watching the first episode of Nickelodean iCarly, where the main character decides to do a web show, my kids decided that they would like to do a "show". Choosing to share our experiences with others, sounded like a really fun idea.

After going to a restaurant or on an outing, we talk about how we felt about it and what we each think and then we share those thoughts and ideas with you.
