Tonight at Girl Scouts, we made posters about why we love the town where we live. The posters are going to be part of our decoration for our float at the annual Lions Club Harvest Festival this month. We all talked about the same things on our posters - the fun we have at our different activities and the friends that we have here. It's a pretty great place to live!

Every year Mom tries to take off work to help with VBS. Nana used to do the same thing for her kids when they were little. There is something special that happens when a "village" come together to train the children in the way they should go. Blessings flow. Every year, when we start to think I'm too busy or too... whatever, I'm thankful that we are reminded of the blessings that come from such a small sacrifice. Not only blessings on the adults, but on our children. The friendships, the lessons, and the scripture memory are phenomenal blessings to our children. Most importantly, though is the love that is shared and multiplied throughout the week. This year, finding God's love was the theme of VBS. God's love is the treasure. Oh, is it ever. We pray that the people involved with VBS this week remember what a treasure God's love truly is. There was something special about it all this week. Perhaps it was a friends marriage on the rocks while another is expecting a baby or a town surrounding a coach in prayer for health issues so soon after tragically loosing another teacher. Without the love and support of the church, in whatever form that takes, those situations could seem impossible, insurmountable, but surrounded by a village, maybe it's not. From the lessons about loving people when no one else does, like the Samaritan Woman or Zacchaeus to lessons about obedience, like when Jesus was baptized or crucified to lessons about forgiveness and redemption like when Peter told Jesus three times that he did love him, the love is evident. The application of the principals are timeless. What a gift, what a treasure, it is to know that love. Yesterday I intended to send an email to let the teachers and staff in the school district where my children attend school know that they'd be prayed for, to encourage them for the new year, and to thank them for coming back to day #2, but I didn't. I just put it off and I didn't do it. Today when I wrote the letter to send to them, I hesitated. I wasn't sure how it would be recieved, what people would think, or if it would just add more to their inbox than they cared to recieve. I certainly didn't want people to think that I was "godly" or something more than I am - I just prayed and wanted them to know I was thinking about them. Nothing More. Nothing big, right? I sent the emails at 10:20 and by noon I had 35 responses thanking, encouraging, and affirming the effectiveness of our prayers. As I read each one, my heart grew full and my eyes filled up with tears. I was overwhelmed and very humbled by the responses and they are still coming... Prayer Changes Things. Prayer Changes Me - THE EMAILNAME, Welcome to the middle of the first week of school! I wanted to share with you that you have been prayed for by name every day for a week now. I welcome the prayers with open arms. Thanks again!!!! THE VIDEOIn the middle of the day, Levi Stinson, owner and operator of the Shallow Ice stand in Shallowater was quite busy. This is his first week to be open this summer and it seems that the people in Shallowater were ready for him to open once again. The shaved ice stand consists of an unbrella, two chairs and a table loaded with an ice machine and a great selection of flavors - like pina colada, tigers blood, bubble gum and more... We ordered two tigers blood, a bubble gum and just a cup of yummy shaved. It took quite awhile to get the fourth cup because Levi had to get a new block of ice - and it was giant! it looked like the bottom of a soda can, kind of. It was well worth the wait. That ice was really smooth and it just tasted great. We brought the shaved ice back home to enjoy them. "The best part about my shaved ice was the flavor," said Preston - by Clayton Overall The service was super friendly. The owner is not a grown up, which is cool for kids. The ice is amazing. It was cool seeing the big block of ice getting turned into little pieces of snow. The flavors are delicious. I think that tiger blood is the best. AuthorsAfter watching the first episode of Nickelodean iCarly, where the main character decides to do a web show, my kids decided that they would like to do a "show". Choosing to share our experiences with others, sounded like a really fun idea. SuscribeConnectArchives
